THE 2014 Stage Experience production at the Grand Opera House will be the York premiere of the Madness and Tim Firth musical Our House.
Stage Experience is a two-week project for ten to 21 year olds during the summer holidays that will culminate in four public performances.
Built around the songs of Camden Town ska band Madness, Our House is the story of Joe Casey, who takes the girl of his dreams, Sarah, out for their first date on the night of his 16th birthday.
In an effort to impress her with bravado, he breaks into a building site overlooking his home on Casey Street, which is owned by Mister Pressman, a high-end property developer. The police turn up, at which point Joe’s life splits into two: the Good Joe, who stays to help, and Bad Joe, who flees.
Auditions will be held on Sunday, March 30 next year to take part in this intensive project, where the young performers will work with professional director and choreographer Louise Denison, in her seventh year in this role, and regular musical director Adam Laird.
Young and aspiring theatre technicians also are invited to take part in the project, working with the professional team on sound, lighting, set, props and costume.
Stage Experience coordinator Clare O’Connor says: “The Grand Opera House is very excited to be producing this show for Stage Experience. It’s the first time Our House has been done in any of the Ambassador Theatre Group venues and represents a challenge to the production team, the theatre and ATG.”
