Congratulations on the 30th anniversary, Dillie. How are the celebrations going?

“We started the anniversary tour last year and we’ll tour it for up to four tours as it’s a show that will support many tours. It’s like an expensive dress; you’ve bought it, so you’ll wear it as much as possible.”

Where have those 30 years gone?

“No, I can’t believe it’s 30 years. I keep thinking I’ll wake up and it’s only two years and Marilyn Cutts is still in the group.”

What keeps Fascinating Aida going after 30 years?

“It may sound arrogant to say this, but there’s no one else like us, there really isn’t. When we’re called Britain’s best loved female comedy cabaret trio, I’m thinking, ‘Well, who are the others?’ But the real reason is the strength of the writing. The muse has not yet died.”

How many fellow Fascinating Aida members have you and Adele Anderson worked with over the years?

“274! No, not that many but it’s a huge list of not so much wannabes as wanna-get-outs.”

Liza Pulman is your current third member of the trio. What does it take to be a member of Fascinating Aida?

“It takes utter madness. What cabaret does is ask you to sing without a fourth wall, so you have to be completely comfortable in your own skin, but a lot of actors aren’t comfortable that way. They need to play a character, but you can’t do that in Fascinating Aida. You have to be yourself.

“That’s why Liza Pulman is so wonderful for the show as she’s so happy in her skin. You also have to be a wonderful musician. We may make it look easy, but it isn’t.”
