THE Pocklington School Foundation Play is being staged this week in connection with the school’s 500th anniversary celebrations.
The junior and senior schools have joined forces to prepare one of the biggest events of its type held at the school. Five hundred years of the school’s history unfolds on stage and the cast and crew features 100 pupils and staff aged from seven to 70.
The company for this collaborative project comprises a team of directors, writers, choreographers and designers across the foundation, who have devised innovative ways to present the story.
Staged in the Tom Stoppard Theatre, the Foundation Play collates selected snapshots of the figures and events that have shaped the school’s rich history, starting with the founding of the school by John Dowman in 1514 and culminating in a closing ceremony that focuses on the school’s identity today.
Performances began on Monday this week and will conclude with a 7pm show tonight. Tickets have sold out.
