THE Pierrotters, the last-remaining professional Pierrot troupe in Britain, give a brief performance tomorrow at 11am at Goole Museum, followed by a family show at 2pm at The Gate, Goole Arts Theatre.
Two years ago, Tony Liddington, Promenade Promotions director and member of the Pierrrotters, secured a Heritage Lottery Fund award of £49,900 - money that was used to fund the We Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside project.
This project involved four groups of young people, including Goole College students, learning the necessary skills to research and record the history of seaside entertainment in towns along the Yorkshire coast.
As part of the heritage project, Goole Museum is hosting an exhibition that records the disappearing traditions of Pierrot troupes and concert parties, which were once a familiar sight in Yorkshire's holiday resorts.
For tomorrow's performances, The Pierrotters will be dressed in traditional white satin, pom-poms and conical hats as they create a show full of musicality and eccentric nonsense. Expect old songs in new styles and new songs in old styles, dance routines, ventriloquism, recitations and "more silliness than fish in a blanket".
The Pierrotters' shows are suitable for the whole family, and all tickets cost £3.50 from Goole Town Council or on the door. Daytime box office: 01405 763652; show-time box office: 01405 720219 from one hour before performance.
