Leeds City Varieties Music Hall
Pantomime: Dick Whittington, The Rock'n'Roll Panto.
The buzz: Fourth year for distinctive City Varieties pantomime package. "You won’t see anything like this anywhere else in Yorkshire," promises general manager Ian Sime.
Style: What it says on the tin. This is the rock'n'roll panto wherein actor-musicians play the rocking soundtrack live on stage in the retro style of The Commitments.
Content: Musical rock'n'rollercoaster ride through the streets of old London with slapstick comedy, audience interaction, outlandish costumes and the obligatory boulder fight between cast and crowd that puts the other rock into rock'n'roll.
Stars: Leeds lad Kenny Davies, as Billy Bungalow; Hollie Cassar as Fairy Bowbells; Liz Singleton as Alice Fitzwarren; Simon Nock as Sarah the Cook, after making his dame debut last Christmas.
Anything new for 2014? Tom Milner as Dick Whittington. Tom trained at Intake Performing Arts School, in Leeds, and made his name as Ollie In CITV’s Barking, Paul Langley in Waterloo Road and Ben Eddon in Holby City.
Look out for: The Sex Pistols' Pretty Vacant, re-imagined by The Punk Rats.
