York Musical Theatre Company's rehearsals are progressing well for the May 9 to 19 production of Sandy Wilson's The Boy Friend at York Theatre Royal.

While cast members are perfecting their RP accents and fancy footwork for the Charleston routines, the production team has a new name in the fold. The company is working for the first time with designer Catherine Chapman, who has designed numerous Studio shows for York Theatre Royal and its Youth Theatre, including Franz Kafka's The Trial.

She is creating a stylish French Riviera set from the 1920s for The Boy Friend, and having also designed productions at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, she is building the set with the SJT production team for transportation back to York.

Sandy Wilson's The Boy Friend is a jazzy, romantic burlesque of 1920s musical comedy, and Catherine's design will combine ornate French furniture with striped ornings and stylish balustrades to create the feeling of Twenties' France, complemented by period costumes made by Dress Circle in Leeds.
