GRASS is sprouting from the floor of Haxby Memorial Hall this week, but the trustees are not panicking.
Real turf has been laid down as part of a realistic set for Haxby Players' production of Humble Boy.
Designing the show has challenged director Andy Love. Not only is this Charlotte Jones play set in the round, but also it requires the turf and a love seat and Andy has had to build a beehive too.
"It's been unusual laying a lawn inside, " he says. "We 'll have to keep the hall cool during the day so that the grass will still look fresh by the end of the week. We're really pleased with the results."
Regular players Robin Sanger, Brenda Sanger, Dave Hudson and Steve Wilcox combine with company newcomers Margaret Simpson and Bex Calpin in a production that opened two nights ago and continues with 7.30pm performances tonight and tomorrow. For tickets, phone 0870 469722.
