Theatre goers are in for a treat at Helmsley Arts Centre next week, as the resident 1812 Theatre Company opens with an ambitious new production of The Sea by Edward Bond.
Written in 1973 the play was revived in the West End last year, and depicts the aftermath of a wild storm in a seaside town, which sets off a series of events that changes the lives of all its residents. The Sea blends farce, comedy, social satire and poetic tragedy, and this production will not fail to entertain.
The production, featuring experienced 1812 actors as well as performers from the successful 1812 Youth Theatre, is directed by Em Whitfield Brooks, whose 2004 production of Waiting for Godot was described by David Denton in the York Evening Press as “a performance that you would expect in the most celebrated theatres…nothing short of amazing…sheer brilliance.”
The performances are at 7.30pm on Wednesday 22nd – Saturday 25th April at Helmsley Arts Centre. To book tickets please phone HAC Box Office on 01439 771700
