Reflect With Attitude is a far from conventional dance show.

“If you’re expecting a show filled with girls in pink tutus, red tap shoes and too much blue eye shadow, you’ll be sorely disappointed”, says Lesley Hill, choreographer and producer of this exciting new performance from the Attitude dance group, taking place tomorrow at the Grand Opera House, York.

The show is ambitious scale, with more than 200 male and female performers, ranging in age from three to 30, performing 30 high-energy dance numbers.

Employing dance styles as diverse as street, break, contemporary and lyrical, Attitude aim to challenge traditional perceptions of the dance genre with their “relevant, unique and modern” performance in their fifth appearance at the Opera House.

“I’ve invested in enhanced lighting and special effects to add more theatrical elements to this year’s production,” says Lesley.

“The use of a projection screen with moving images will complement the theme of each dance, and the use of props in certain numbers will add interest and diversity.”

The tone of Lesley’s innovative show will be set by her senior dance team’s inventive twist on a The Phantom Of The Opera dance, while the interestingly named Crazy Doll number will show exactly how far Reflect With Attitude differs from the norm.

Although fast-paced dance numbers are Attitude’s forte, tomorrow’s show will feature live vocal performances: George Stagnell will perform Michael Jackson’s She’s Out Of My Life and Beth Archer’s version of Bring Me To Life will be her farewell to Attitude, as she looks forward to starting university in September. Reflect With Attitude is Lesley’s fastest-selling dance show to date. While clearly a testament to her growing reputation as one of York’s most progressive choreographers, this rising popularity may also be attributable to the ethos at the heart of the group.

“The group’s name, Attitude, has a double meaning,” explains Lesley. “Not only is it the name of a dance step, but the dancers in my club are also encouraged to approach their art with energy and gusto. A positive, hard-working attitude is what we’re about.”

Reflect With Attitude runs for two performances only, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm tomorrow. Tickets cost £13, concessions £10, on 0844 847 2322 or grandoperahouseyork.org.uk.

Lesley will be reuniting with Attitude dancers Oliver Tattersfield, Luke Dunford and Nik Briggs when she choreographs York Stage Musicals’ production of Footloose in September.
