THE monster family show The Gruffalo is returning to York.

Last performed at the Grand Opera House in July 2006, Tall Stories’ stage show will visit the York theatre from August 12 to 14.

Touring since 2001, this musical adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s picture book has been performed more than 4,000 times to a million people worldwide. The book has just been voted the nation’s number one bedtime story by BBC Radio2 listeners and a television adaptation was broadcast on BBC1 on Christmas Day last year.

In Tall Stories’ touring show, Lowri James stars as Mouse, Alan Park is The Gruffalo and Napoleon Ryan and Kathryn Kirton play the Narrator and Predators in the tale of Mouse’s adventurous journey through the deep dark wood.

There he meets a wheeler-dealer Fox, an eccentric old Owl and a maraca-shaking, party-mad Snake, but while Mouse can scare off these hungry animals with tall stories of the terrifying Gruffalo, what happens when he comes face to face with the very creature he imagined?

Performances are at 1.30pm, Thursday and Friday; 11am and 1.30pm, Saturday. Tickets cost £11 on 0844 847 2322.
