Flying Ducks Youth Theatre has found its leading man for next April’s British youth theatre premiere of the Broadway musical Curtains in York.

Matthew English, from Thirsk, will take on the role of Lieutenant Frank Cioffi, a shrewd Boston police officer assigned to solve the mystery of who killed failing actress Jessica Cranshaw.

Matthew, who has eight years’ dance and six years’ drama experience, has played such roles as Bill Sikes in Oliver! and Adam Pontipee in Seven Brides For Seven Brothers.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing Lt Coiffi and, as this is the British youth premiere, I feel it’s an opportunity to put my own stamp on it.”

Sue Blanchard, of Flying Ducks, says: “We would like to thank The Press for helping us in our search and all the young actors for their interest.”

The production will run from April 14 to 16 at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York. “A clever script, a brilliant musical score, together with the fantastic cast who are in place, will make Curtains a must-see show,” says Sue.
