York Unitarians will play host to The Real People Theatre in a forum theatre production for Refugee Action Week in Saturday, June 25 at St Saviourgate Unitarian Chapel, York.
From 2pm to 4pm, the York women’s theatre company will present Encounters, a show about homelessness and refugees.
“Encounters is an interactive theatre piece – or ‘forum theatre’ – and on this occasion will contain two scenes entitled Homelessness and Welcome To Peckham,” says Sue Lister, the company’s artistic director.
“Forum theatre is close to my heart in that it presents negative situations and invites the audience to intervene, stand in the shoes of a person in trouble, and speak up for them. If only we could do it more often in real life!”
Admission is free but donations are welcome. These will be shared between Brunswick Organic Nursery, a registered charity that offers purposeful work and training to people with learning disabilities, and Real People Theatre.
Please note, the ground floor of the Grade II listed chapel is fully accessible.
