On Sunday April 14 1912, as The Titanic slipped below the frigid waters of the Atlantic, J Bruce Ismay, managing director of The White Star Line, stepped into a life boat and sailed away from the stricken ship and his passengers; sailed away from their cries and screams and tears.
Patrick Prior’s play The Man Who Left The Titanic visits Helmsley Arts Centre on Saturday with its central question of whether Bruce Ismay only did what any of us might have done in the same circumstances or should his actions that night consign his name to infamy?
Presented by Isoceles and Useful Idiots, Jim Dunk’s production can be seen at at 7.30pm. For tickets, ring 01439 771700.
