Mooted Theatre Company director Mark France is looking for experienced actors for all roles in his autumn production in York of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

If you are interested in auditioning, send a CV and photo to Mark at mark@mootedtheatre.com by June 15. Auditions will take place on Sunday, June 19 and Wednesday, June 22, so please state if you have a preference. Rehearsals will begin in late July and will be scheduled according to cast availability.

“We’re also recruiting for stage management, a lighting and sound designer and a composer, and anyone interested in any of these should email me to arrange a meeting,” says Mark, who points out that all roles will be unpaid.

Mooted’s Macbeth, directed by Mark and designed by Simon Jarvis, will run at 41 Monkgate, York from September 28 to October 8.

“With the wounds of a bloody civil war still fresh, Scotland will bleed anew in Macbeth,” says Mark. “Countless young lives ended on the battlefield, but the old continue to grapple for power, oblivious to the demons spawned amid the blood and barbed wire.

“The dark powers choose Macbeth, who becomes their executor, feeding on his disdain for slick politicos and his overwhelming desire for control over his fate, a desire rooted in loss which will drive both him and his wife to murder and madness.”

Mark and Simon were the production team behind Mooted’s 2009 show, Shakespeare’s The Taming Of The Shrew and past Mooted productions include David Mamet’s A Life In The Theatre, John Ford’s ’Tis Pity She’s A Whore and the premiere of Gemma Head’s Dead Man’s Shoes.
