Malton and Norton Musical Theatre will have a cast of 60 for its summer concert, Don’t Stop Believin’, at Norton College Hall on July 8 and 9.
The show has been influenced by the television phenomenon Glee and hit numbers from that ubiquitous American series will feature in the two-hour spectacular, alongside songs from musicals, operas and the pop charts.
“This concert is very exciting and has appealed to so many people of all ages,” says producer Gemma Williams. “We have an age range of six to 60, which is fantastic and just shows what a real community Malton and Norton Musical Theatre has become.”
The show will benefit from the expertise of Mike Thompson, musical director of many a show in York. He was the MD for Malton and Norton’s Oliver! last year and will take on the same duties this summer, when he will be supported by piano accompanist Gill Boler.
The producer is seeking to “put a different stance on the concert and perform each number by telling a story through movement and dance, rather than your more traditional choir-style concert”.
With that in mind, Jolley Gosnold will be handling the choreography. “His amazing talent, enthusiasm and creative flair will sure make this concert is very pleasing on the eye,” says Gemma.
Tickets for the 7.30pm evening performances and 2.15pm Saturday matinee are available at £6 from the Malton Tourist Information Centre, tel 01653 600048.
