York Theatre Royal’s Young Actors Company will hold auditions on June 29 and July 1 for Little Angels, a new play by York playwright and actress Hannah Davies.
Directed by the theatre’s education and young actors associate, Julian Ollive, the premiere will run in The Studio from September 14 to 17 with a cast of four young actors and two older actresses from the York community.
In Little Angels, Chloe is 17, single and lives with her aunty and new baby. Struggling to cope with her new life and facing an uncertain future, she seeks solace and answers by delving into her troubled past. Knowing the truth, however, brings with it a dilemma: should Chloe follow the family mould or choose to follow her own path?
“We’re looking for one male actor and three actresses between the ages of 18 and 25,” says Julian. “Auditions will take place in pairs and you’ll be sent scenes to read beforehand. We’re seeking committed and passionate young people who are available to rehearse on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from July 31 and occasional weekends later in the process.”

The Young Actors Company was founded in 2008 with an artistic vision to focus on new, contemporary and site-specific work and to provide performance opportunities for young adults, acting as a bridge for some into the professional industry.
The company made its debut with three site-specific pieces for the York Youth Mysteries and has since explored questions and ethics surrounding genetics in An Exact Science? and staged Peter Shaffer’s controversial psychological drama Equus as part of the Theatre Royal’s TakeOver09 festival.
Three premieres have followed: Terrorism in The Studio; Elsewhere in collaboration with Belt Up Theatre at York Explore and Celebrating Severus earlier this year at the Yorkshire Museum.
