THE rock’n’roll variety show That’ll Be The Day is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a 7.30pm performance at the Grand Opera House, York, on Sunday.
The birthday is being marked with a new production, combining two hours of nostalgia, favourite hits from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s and the best feel-good comedy routines from the show’s 25 years.
Trevor Payne, who wrote and created That’ll Be The Day on the cabaret circuit in 1987, still directs, produces and stars in the production today and he rewrites it every year.
He pours six months’ work into the planning and preparation, culminating in four weeks of intensive rehearsals before the show once again takes to the road with its fresh offering every summer for as many as 230 performances.
“With so many fans coming to see the show regularly, we wanted to give them something different this year,” he says. “It feels like a completely different show.” Box office: 0844 871 3024 or online at grandoperahouseyork.org.uk
