Mooted Theatre Company director Mark France will present a claustrophobic adaptation of Shakespeare’s darkest tragedy, Macbeth, in the intimacy of 41 Monkgate, York, from September 28 to October 8.
“Focusing on the innocent lives destroyed by Macbeth and his wife, this new production shapes the rubble, smoke and razor wire of modern warfare into a startlingly modern frame for Shakespeare’s timeless commentary on the gruesome price of absolute power,” says Mark.
He has reassembled the production team behind the York company’s 2009 production of Shakespeare’s The Taming Of The Shrew: designer Simon Jarvis, sound designer Kingsley Ash and movement director Audrie Woodhouse.
Mooted was founded in York in 2007 as an independent professional theatre company that utilises local actors, musicians, stage crew and designers. Previous productions have included David Mamet’s A Life In The Theatre, John Ford’s ’Tis Pity She’s A Whore and the world premiere of Leeds playwright Gemma Head’s Dead Man’s Shoes.
Please note, there will be no performance of Macbeth on Monday, October 3.
