YORK Shakespeare Project is seeking talented, hard-working and creative cast and crew to take part in this autumn’s production of Othello.
Director Mark France and designer Simon Jarvis, normally of the Mooted Theatre Company, are joining YSP to realise their “exciting, gritty, fast-paced vision of one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies”.
The production will run for seven performances from October 23 to 27 in YSP’s debut appearance in The Studio at York Theatre Royal.
“We’re looking for actors of all levels of experience for all roles,” says Mark. “Rehearsals will start in late August and will generally take place in York no more than two evenings a week as well as on Sunday afternoons.”
Auditions will be held at Upstage Centre Youth Theatre, 41 Monkgate, York, on the evenings of June 28 and 29 with recalls on July 4.
“Everyone who applies will be asked to take part in a group workshop and then perform a short prepared piece of Shakespeare in a solo audition,” says Mark.
If you are interested in auditioning or require more details, send an email with a brief theatrical resumé and photo to markfrance6@virginmedia.com by June 26. Please indicate whether you would prefer a Thursday or a Friday night audition.
YSP is also recruiting for stage management, a lighting designer, sound designer, costume designer and composer. If interested in any of these posts, email Mark to arrange a meeting.
