THE Black Swan at Peasholme Green in York is to be the venue for a production of John Gay’s The Beggar’s Opera.

The show is a comedy about highwayman Macheath (referred to in the modern song Mack The Knife).

Macheath is involved in a love triangle between two girls, Polly (played by Beth North) and Lucy (Imogen Gibbs).

He appears to have married them both and had “acquaintances” with a number of other women along the way.

Key to the story is whether or not he will be hanged, and how the two girls try to help him, while trying to get rid of each other. The musical will be performed from July 21 to July 24, at 7.30pm.
