SCRIPT Yorkshire’s York branch will hold its Script Factor Final tonight in the York Theatre Royal Studio.
Branch members have been battling it out in heats in the City Screen Basement bar since last September, and now the five heat winners will be pitted against each other at 7.45pm in pursuit of the “coveted but very small” Script Factor Champion’s Trophy.
Each heat victor has written a new piece for tonight’s final on the theme of York 800. “We’re proud to be part of the July programme as York celebrates 800 years since King John granted York its Royal Charter,” says Beryl Nairn, membership secretary of York Settlement Community Players, who will provide the actors for the script readings.
Tonight’s first play will be Hudson’s Choice, written by Rachel Alexander-Hill and Helen Wilson and performed by Mandy Newby, Maggie Smales, Daniel Wilmot, Robin Sanger, David Malinsky and Matthew Wignall.
Angela Bridge’s Maundy Mayhem will be read by Jan Kirk, as Queen Elizabeth II, plus Andy Love as King John, Janice Barnes-Newton and Beryl Nairn.
Sarah Chalk’s Them will be presented by Daniel Wilmot, Helen Cadbury, Beryl Nairn and Andy Field as the Devil., and Field will be performing in Chris Green’s History, Mystery, Story too, this time as The Historian, alongside Janice Barnes-Newton and Daniel Wilmot.
The last piece will be Let's Get Mysterious by Matt Pattison, read by Daniel Wilmot, Natalie-Clare Brimicombe, Rosy Rowley and Maurice Crichton.
The 7.45pm final will be compered by Liam Evans-Ford, community producer of this summer’s York Mystery Plays 2012. Tonight’s event has sold out, but to check late ticket availability, phone 01904 623568 or visit yorktheatreroyal.co.uk
