HAXBY Players mark their 60th anniversary by staging the first York production of a new play by Scarborough playwright Sue Wilding.
A tragic-comedy with a title taken from The Beatles' song Here Comes The Sun, Ice Is Slow Melting concerns the relationships between a group of holidaymakers seeking sun-soaked relaxation in Greece.
Phil (Robin Sanger) and Jackie (Geraldine Jevons) are filming a video for television presentation; grandparents Dorothy and Reg (Sheila Barnett, Ron Jevons) are holidaying with their shopaholic daughter, Gillian (Ruth Batty), long suffering son-in-law Mark (Andy Love) and their irritating grandchildren.
Meanwhile, Ben (Austin Barnett) is trying to live up to the expectation of sex-mad Debbie (Michelle Berry), and femme fatale Paula (Brenda Sanger) is retaining her air of mystery.
In this Mediterranean idyll, all are staying in the same hotel, where temperatures rise and sparks fly as the wine and beer flow freely, romance beckons and matrimonial hell ensues.
"We're privileged to be able to present this new play by Sue Wilding, which we're confident will be a hot ticket," says director David Hudson.
Sue has written around 20 plays, and Ice Is Slowly Melting was the latest to be given its premiere by the Cresta Players.
For the York premiere, Rowntree Players regular Ruth Batty is welcomed to the Haxby fold. Show dates are October 25 to 28 at 7.30pm at Haxby Memorial Hall; tickets cost £5 in advance on 01904 425099.
