SIAN Phillips, British star of stage and screen will be In Conversation at the Department of Theatre, Film and Television, University of York at 6pm today.
Her celebrated screen performances include Livia opposite Derek Jacobi in I, Claudius, for which she won a BAFTA and a Royal Television Society award; Katerina Ivanovna in Crime And Punishment; Dune; Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy; Smiley's People and Martin Scorsese’s film The Age Of Innocence. Her recent stage work has included Calendar Girls, Juliet and Her Romeo, A Little Night Music and Lovesong.
Siân will be discussing her work in theatre, film and television in conversation with Dr Tom Cantrell and Dr Christopher Hogg as part of their research project into television acting, Playing The Small Screen.
Siân’s experience of acting for the small screen spans many decades, from the early conditions of live television transmission to the present day. Her work on major BBC dramas such as I, Claudius and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy saw her playing leading roles during the golden age of British television.
Not only will Siân be offering valuable insights into her work as an actor, she also will share more light-hearted storiess of her career on both stage and screen.
The event is part of a one-day conference on acting for television, featuring talks by leading academics, actors and actor-trainers.
