RYCRAFT Peter Sadly passed away on the 19th September 2023 aged 87 years. Loving husband to the late Ann and devoted father to Bee and David. Funeral service to be held at Heslington Church on 9th October at 1:30pm. Family flowers only, Donations would be gratefully received for Book Aid International. Peter Rycraft and his wife Ann became dear friends of mine after I left York in 1967. (He had taught me medieval history and she paleography and archival research skills from 1964-1967). He was one of the first academics I met at Heslington Hall in October 1967: we were both hiding behind a velvet curtain at a reception and he gave understood I think my lack of self confidence and gave me courage to come out of the shadows! He was an inspirational figure in my career as an academic historian. Although I have not seen him since 2014, I will miss him very much. RIP, Peter from Rosemary O’DAY.
