GREEN-FINGERED youngsters have planted more than 6,000 daffodil bulbs at Malton Hospital.

Pupils from West Lutton and Malton primary schools were renewing the Field Of Hope at the hospital.

It was created a decade ago under the patronship of the then Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Sir Marcus Worsley.

Yesterday, pupils joined forces with the hospital's League Of Friends and planted thousands more bulbs in the field.

The daffodil bulbs themselves were donated by Norton-based Redrow Homes, and the planting arranged by cancer charity Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Cheryl Barrett, Marie Curie community fundraising manager for North and East Yorkshire, said: "Each year, Marie Curie Fields Of Hope burst into bloom at locations all over the country, reflecting the optimism of spring. The feeling of hope that the daffodil brings makes it the perfect emblem."
