WE are unhappy at the proposal by Selby District Council to increase council tax and also about the proposed green bin tax.
As Conservative councillors and potential councillors for county council, we are not happy to say this, but the council has got this wrong.
Under the coalition government, it’s been good to be able to say council tax has not risen; we should be proud of this, but to increase even by a small amount is wrong and we feel that almost every family will agree given the economic climate.
As for the green-bin tax, people will not fill their bins up if they have to pay a charge; we pay our council tax so this should cover all bin collections.
As members of the Conservative Club, we also have to listen to what people say and we believe that a proposal for the stoppage of green-bin collections during the winter would mean the green-bin tax would not be needed.
We write this to show we do care what people think and that politicians at all levels care. So we ask the council to seriously reconsider this issue.
Karl Arthur and Christopher Fisher, Charles Street, Selby.
