IN THE Press of January 28, we are informed that £350,000 is to be spent creating extra pitches at the existing travellers’ site at Osbaldwick – not bad for a place in the country and with somewhere to keep one’s horses.
What criteria are required to get a pitch? Would it be evidence of income tax or National Insurance contributions, perhaps? Could anyone on York’s extensive housing waiting list turn up with a caravan on opening day and grab a pitch?
Naz Parkar, of the Homes and Communities Agency, states: “This is good news for York because it will help ensure that every member of the community will be able to live in the homes they want in a suitable place.”
Those on the housing waiting list might wonder about that.
Such a sum would have gone a long way to building homes on the Beckfield Lane tip site, which is now approaching its first anniversary of standing idle.
