VOLUNTEERS are needed to help ensure the Yorkshire Marathon runs smoothly.
Running places in the marathon are now full - although people may still be able to get a place in the race by signing up to run for a charity.
However, people can still play their part as race organisers say a “small army” will be needed to help on the day.
Everyone is welcome to volunteer, the only recommendation being that volunteers are aged over 16 to volunteer independently, although 14 and 15-year-olds can volunteer with a supervising parent or guardian.
Roles at the event include volunteers at the start and finish, route marshals, senior marshals, drink station marshals, baggage store marshals and race office volunteers.
A spokesman for the event said: “It’s not just The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon that’s new for 2013, we are also pleased to introduce ‘eventeers’ - our scheme to formally recognise our commitment to the people who give their time to support us through volunteering.
“Whether you’re volunteering on behalf of one of our partner charities, a group or organisation or simply for yourself, The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon Team will be very grateful for your support and so will thousands of participants.”
All volunteers will receive an electronic certificate of appreciation after the event. A reward and recognition document will also follow shortly as part of the ‘eventeers’ scheme.
