A YORK primary school has received the royal seal of approval for its “outstanding” garden.
Pupils at Dringhouses Primary School have been presented with a prestigious Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) award, as part of the the society’s Campaign For School Gardening scheme.
Louise Cox, of the RHS, presented a plaque and a certificate to the school in recognition of it achieving Level Five in the scheme.
Only 90 schools out of more than 16,000 have received the Level Five award in the country.
Dringhouses’ garden was judged an “outstanding” school garden which is a key resource for teaching and learning, and which is used as a resource by the wider community.
The presentation was followed by a tree-planting ceremony and gardening workshops with children from year groups one to four and volunteer Sally Gatus, who runs the school gardening club.
Louise said: “Dringhouses Primary School has demonstrated exceptional knowledge and skill in their school garden, as well as an awareness of sustainability and helping the community”.
