COLIN CLIFFORD (Letters, January 28) asked why, after many months, the lighting on Millennium Bridge was still not working. This is the question I have been repeatedly asking over the years.
This culminated in significant investment in the ‘new’ low energy LED lighting system installed in 2010, with support from funds from the (then significant) Fishergate ward budget.
The new lighting has proved popular and was supposed to be less vulnerable to the effects of the elements, but it seems the system is liable to cut out if water gets into the power supply connections.
At the time of writing the lighting is back working again (although not 100 per cent) on this important walking and cycling route, and I would like to thank the Highways Dept for at long last adding this key link to the priority routes for snow clearing in severe weather.
Coun Andy D’Agorne, Green Party, Fishergate ward.
