A HEDGEHOG rescued from floodwaters is to be given a new home with two mates – thanks to a York pub.
Staff and regulars at The Golden Ball in Bishophill are to provide a home for Noah, Sugar and Spice in the community garden opposite the pub.
Noah was rescued from the flooded Ouse at Cawood in September, suffering from pneumonia and in shock. But he was nursed back to health by Selby Wildlife Rescue and will move to York once winter is over.
He will be given a home in the community garden in Cromwell Road, the old churchyard of St Mary’s Bishophill Senior.
Annette Pyrah, founder of Selby Wildlife Rescue, previously said: “Noah is one lucky hedgehog. Not only was he spotted struggling to escape the icy waters, I was able to fish him out and get him straight to the vets.
"Noah was kept warm, given antibiotics and has now grown into a large handsome fellow. He still has a few rattles in his chest, but the vet says this is due to the scarring on his lungs caused by the pneumonia.
"I did not expect him to survive the night, but survive he did. We have had him for two months now and he is quite a character. I will be sad to see him go.”
