YORK has 69 new hereditary freemen after the Lord Mayor of York, Coun Keith Hyman presided over a meeting of the Freedom Court.
They were all born into families whose members can claim the honour.
Each made a Freeman’s Declaration and an Oath of Obedience witnessed by a blood relative at the ceremony at the Guildhall.
There are an estimated 5,000 Freemen of the City of York, most of whom do not live in the city.
