I HAVE seen, on more than one occasion, First Bus drivers dumping surplus copies of the Metro newspapers in litter bins.
As York’s ratepayers are stumping up £90 a ton for rubbish disposal, should they be subsidising First’s waste disposal?
Apart from which, this sort of waste should be recycled. There are plenty of organisations that welcome scrap paper for recycling; indeed, Copmanthorpe Scouts only recently sent out a circular pleading for waste paper.
Unfortunately so many big businesses are purely preoccupied with making profits and the chances of them spending time on things that do not generate money are slim.
It would be great to see major companies like First Bus co-operating with local community organisations, but don’t hold your breath.
