A NEW car had its entire front end ripped off in a hit-and-run collision in York.
Allan Whalley, 47, said he woke on Saturday morning to find the front of the white Audi A4 he had parked near his house in Dewsbury Terrace, Bishophill, had been torn off.
The other vehicle, which is believed to have been a van, did not stop at the scene.
Mr Whalley said a neighbour heard someone being dropped off in the street at about 3.15am on Saturday and at about the same time another neighbour said he saw a van, which had apparently been unable to get around the corner where the car was parked, reverse back down the street.
Mr Whalley, a finance director, said: “The person has come by and ripped the car in this large vehicle; they have then reversed down the street.
“It’s slightly perturbing someone has not got the nerve to let me know. Somebody has to know on this street who has dropped them off and is not prepared to come forward.”
He said the Audi was on loan from a garage while he was having his family car fixed and said that, as a result, he will have to pay £250 excess.
Although there are a number of CCTV cameras monitoring surrounding streets, they had not been pointing in the right direction to capture a vehicle leaving the area at that time, Mr Whalley has been told.
PC Mike Cooper, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible. I would also appeal to the driver of the van to do the right thing and come forward.”
Anyone who can help police is asked to phone 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
