A MAN is in hospital with a serious head injury after being attacked in York city centre today.
The 46-year-old was outside Society Lounge Bar in Rougier Street at about 2am when he was assaulted and fell to the ground, injuring his head as a result.
He was taken by ambulance to York Hospital, where he remains, say police. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, they say.
A 26-year-old man from West Yorkshire has been arrested over the attack and is in police custody.
A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Officers believe there were a number of people around at the time and are appealing for them to get in touch without delay."
Anyone who can help police is asked to phone York CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
