A 25-YEAR-OLD man killed in a North Yorkshire collision has been named.
Ernst Mathias Kirchhoff, from Saarbruecken in Germany, died when he was involved in the crash on the A658 near Kirkby Overblow on January 28.
He was a passenger in a German registered Ford C-Max, which collided with a Toyota Amazon 4 X 4 travelling in the opposite direction towards Buttersyke Bar, towing a trailer loaded with scaffolding.
An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned on January 31.
The driver of the Ford, a 49-year-old Polish man, was taken to Harrogate District Hospital with serious injuries. Both men were working in the UK for a German company.
The driver of the Toyota, a 24-year-old man from the Menston area, was taken to Harrogate District Hospital where he was detained overnight with minor injuries.
The road was closed for six hours while emergency services dealt with the collision.
