TWO women were rescued from the banks of the River Ouse in the centre of York.
The pair, who were understood to have been drinking, were said to have been hanging in a “precarious position” on the river bank at Queen’s Staith.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service sent its water rescue unit to the scene near Ouse Bridge, after receiving reports of the two women, at 7.51pm.
The females were eventually helped from the side of the river by officers, though crews continued to search the area with high-powered torches before leaving the scene.
