WHY doesn’t East Coast Trains stick to running trains and leave traffic control to “the experts” on City of York Council, who are quite capable of making a mess of it without any help.
Some time ago we had an altered flow of traffic leaving the station going via Tea Room Square, making a longer and more expensive journey for passengers.
Then we had the new cycle racks built next to platform two which reduced the number of spaces for cars to drop or pick up passengers, causing further congestion.
The latest idea to close off the dropping-off point is the worst yet. Tea Room Square has less space than within the station and when delivery vehicles are there, spaces are at a premium so cars stop anywhere they can, halting the traffic. East Coast says that the idea is to improve vehicle and pedestrian safety. Can it tell us when the last collision or accident occurred?
The area in front of the station is supposed to be a drop-off point, not a pick-up one. If East Coast staff moved on vehicles which sit there waiting for passengers coming off trains, it would be a lot safer.
