I, LIKE many other residents, have a car with a City of York parking permit at a cost of £95, road tax of around £200 per year on average, a valid MOT at £35 per year and I purchase fuel where the Government takes around 75 per cent in duty and tax.
So why, with all this expense to have to run a car, are our roads being neglected and falling into such a bad state?
The council and the Highways Agency should have millions if not billions of income to spend on our streets and roads.
Yet motorists have to put up with an increasing number of potholes. We have paid in and need to get our roads back to standard. Failure to do so may result in more road deaths and accidents which should be avoidable.
Gary Mitchell, The Groves, York.
