A WOMAN who fell from Ouse Bridge in York into the river was helped to safety by 999 crews as she clung to the river bank.
The 21-year-old suffered a suspected broken leg and was taken to York Hospital after fire crews launched their river rescue unit to help her from the bank.
Crowds from nearby pubs gathered on Queen’s Staith to watch as police, ambulance and fire crews all became involved in the incident, which happened at 7.50pm on Wednesday.
A police spokesman said: “We would advise anyone walking in the vicinity of waterways to be aware of how dangerous water can be and take heed of the many warnings and campaigns about water safety. The shock of cold water alone is enough to kill someone.”
