NEW Earswick IBC are favourites to win the Yorkshire Over-55s League division two title despite losing to second-placed Doncaster 12-6 on points.
With six ends to play, New Earswick led 72-57, but Doncaster rallied at 76-76 after 18 ends before winning 87-85.
At home, Ralph Tiplady’s side got off to a great start, leading 24-8 after ten ends en route to a 36-14 victory.
Barry Harrison’s side had a poor run between the fifth and 15th ends as they lost 26-12.
Away, Barry Johnson’s team led 9-0 after five ends but were all-square by the 18th and they lost 21-18.
Bob Edwards’ team had a 17-14 advantage with six ends to play but went down 26-19.
New Earswick are six points ahead of Doncaster with games against bottom-placed North Cave Maroon and neighbours York ‘B’ to play.
York ‘B’ will look to pick up their fourth win on the trot as they complete their home leg against Leeds tomorrow, starting at noon.
