Young people from across York will be celebrating when they attend a ceremony tonight to mark their achievements on successfully completing the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
The presentation ceremony will take place at 7pm, at the Salvation Army Citadel, in Gillygate. During the ceremony, groups of young people will be giving presentations on volunteering in the community, expeditions and a demonstration of musical skills to parents, carers and invited guests.
City of York Council's Youth Support Services co-ordinates the award scheme, which offers a challenging and rewarding programme of voluntary personal development to young people aged between 14 and 25.
The bronze, silver and gold awards will be presented to those who have successfully completed sections in skill, volunteering, physical and expedition activities. The award is delivered by a network of volunteers across the city.
Coun Janet Looker, cabinet member for education, children and young people, said: “Completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award is a massive achievement which takes a lot of skill and determination. I hope everyone who is collecting an award is very proud of themselves.”
