KICKING kings will be battling to confirm their own domains when the United Masters promotions team stages its Ring Series 2 show tomorrow.
A dozen martial arts bouts from schoolboy to a ladies’ national showdown and on to k1 professional duels will unfold at the event to be held at York’s Energise centre in Acomb.
Five titles will be decided on the card. Doors open at 5pm before the programme gets under way an hour later.
Among the highlights will be Legions Thai-boxing Club duo Al Chambers and Liam Goodwin both vying for separate northern area belts.
Another Legions ace Liam Brough tops the bill in the men’s WRSA Northern Area ‘B’-class showdown against Manchester’s Billy Hatton, while Luke Burke, one of two York Martial Arts Academy fighters, will try to claim the men’s Am full contact kickboxing crown.
Said Tony Dias, who runs United Masters in partnership with Gaz Watkinson: “Nine out of the 12 bouts feature York fighters, so it shows the strength in depth mixed martial arts, kick-boxing and Thai-boxing now has in the city.”
One of the competitors, Martin Baulkalns from the United Masters Martial Arts Academy run by Dias and Watkinson in Layerthorpe, has just returned from the Watford Open with a gold medal alongside club-mate Lewis Smith.
Four silver medals and one bronze were also gained.
Tickets are still available for Ring Series 2 by phoning Dias on 07956 612667 or Watkinson on 07798 765259.
