The two teenagers accused of killing 50-year-old Keith Wright have been charged with murder.
Mr Wright was attacked on Acomb Road near Acomb shops in mid-January and was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary with serious head injuries where he remained until his death.
Liam Wyard, 19, of no fixed address but from Acomb, and a 16-year-old youth were remanded in custody charged with grievous bodily harm.
But after Mr Wright died of his injuries on January 31, police and the Crown Prosecution Service reviewed the charge.
Police have now confirmed that both teenagers were today charged with murder.
They will appear before York magistrates on the new charge on Thursday. Both remain in custody until then.
