STUDENTS who have formed a new choir are to perform Handel’s most famous composition next Saturday.

The choir, Spectrum, which is made up of selected students from the University of York, will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra from the university, which together have performed a wide repertoire of music spanning 500 years.

Ben Horden, the conductor of Spectrum, said: “I am delighted to be leading this performance of Handel’s most celebrated oratorio, Messiah – a masterpiece of the High Baroque – with such a dynamic ensemble of talented musicians and singers. It promises to be a performance not to be missed.”

Spectrum made its debut performance in York Minster in January 2012. Messiah will be performed at 7.30pm at St Olave’s Church in Marygate, York.

Tickets are £14, £10 concession and £5 for students and can be booked by phoning 01904 658338. The box office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
