BOBBLE hats will be the headwear of choice in church this weekend as a congregation is urged to get behind an awareness campaign.
Visitors to St Wilfrid’s Church in Brayton have been asked to wear the novelty headwear at tomorrow’s service to raise funds and awareness for Age UK, and the charity’s work to prevent older people dying of cold.
Reverend Pete Watson, the vicar, said their support of Age UK’s Bobble Day was a fun way to highlight a serious topic, with as many as 25,000 older people at risk of dying because of the cold.
Last year, Mr Watson led a service in pyjamas and a dog collar to raise money for Children In Need.
“I think my daughters are getting used to me being embarrassing!
“But they and the rest of the church are so keen to raise money for these good causes that they’ll join in too. It’s a disgrace that older people can needlessly die of the cold in this day and age, we need to do something to help.
“Bobble Day is all about doing something warm to raise money for older people.”
