AN OUT-of school club in York has become the first to officially show how well it caters for children of varying ages and abilities.

The Acomb Out Of School Club (AOOSC) is the first in the city to complete an Inclusion Standards Framework set by CIty of York Council.

Staff from the club worked together to compile evidence to prove the inclusive nature of AOOSC, from how they train staff to look after children with disabilities to how they cater for children with allergies. In addition, they showed that they have a healthy eating scheme.

Dan Sissons, manager, said: “The framework is a resource that has been created to support the inclusive development of out of school clubs.

“The framework is a comprehensive portfolio that is designed to build on the knowledge and practice of practitioners and to challenge and support the development of any setting.

“When choosing school settings, it is important for parents to know exactly what childcare is available, and whether it can cater for their child’s individual needs.

“We are officially the first out-of-school club in York to complete the framework, and hope that this achievement will help us grow and develop, helping children to participate in activities, irrespective of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, or background.”
