THERE was a seeding upset in one of the semi-finals of the York & District Ladies Open Squash Championship at Dunnington.
While reigning title-holder and number one seed Natalie Cain saw off Claire Pethullis, the other showdown proved a tense five-set tussle between number two Louise Cotter and Jess Hunter, seeded at three.
Hunter took the first game easily, only for Cotter to even up the tie.
Again Hunter was to the fore in the third, but once more Cotter’s competitive spirit brought the game all square and into a deciding fifth set.
However, youth eventually won out over experience, Hunter taking the fifth to set up a clash against Cain in last night’s final at Dunnington Sports and Social Club.
The plate final will be between Sarah Broadhurst who toppled Sarah Smeilk, and Linda Craggs who finished the 10-8 9-6 9-7 conqueror of Liz Stacey.
