I AM not opposed, in principle, to increases in car parking charges, some payment for garden waste collection, even hiving off the library service as a way of saving money.
I believe we really are all in this together (except for certain extremely rich cabinet ministers, companies that don’t pay tax, etc) and we all have to take some of the nasty medicine to spread it around.
What concerns me is that nobody suggests there will be an end to the nasty medicine.
The recession is blamed for students having their fees tripled, for recycling centres being closed, for council tax going up. But nobody says “and in five or ten years we will reverse this”.
