SUPERHEROES raised a smile among chocoholics as they gave away samples of new KitKat Chunkys in York.
Nestlé held the event in Parliament Street offering samples of four new flavours and asking people to vote for their favourite taste from a choice of hazelnut, coconut, chocolate fudge and mint on Facebook.
The winning flavour will become a permanent part of the KitKat range.
Two of them, Chunky Mint and Chunky Coconut, are made at the Nestlé factory in York, while the other two, Chunky Hazelnut and Chunky Choc Fudge, are manufactured in Sofia, Bulgaria.
A similar poll last year, which received a total of 600,000 votes, elected Chunky Peanut Butter.
However, there was some criticism of the Parliament Street event being “unfair”, as a number of people were turned away for not having a Facebook account.
Nestlé has defended its social media campaign.
Corporate affairs officer James Maxton said: “This year’s campaign is bigger than ever and we want as many people as possible to get involved and we’re sorry people felt they could not participate.
“If someone would like to vote and don’t have a Facebook page, and they can’t ask someone to make a vote on their behalf, then we would ask them to call our Consumer Services team who can help. The event team have been re-briefed to ensure samples are freely available and they explain how people can cast their vote.”
Nestlé’s York-based Customer Services number is 0800 604 604.
